Kanab, Utah was the home of the Western. Many great western classics were filmed here in Kanab, including Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger and Stagecoach. More western films were shot in Kanab, UT than any other location outside of California. (Click here for a list of movies filmed in the Kanab area)
Other films, such Planet of the Apes, have chosen to film in the Kanab area because of its unique landscape and terrain. Kanab is surrounded by beautiful red rock mountain ranges. There are many interesting rock formations, canyons and and even hieroglyphics to be explored in and around Kanab.
Just a short drive from Kanab are many National Parks. Zion National Park is a short, scenic 45 minute drive from Kanab. Along the way you'll find the Coral Pink Sand Dunes, great for ATV fun! You can see Dinosaur tracks and fossils at Moqui Cave, relieve the days of the Western by visiting the Gunsmoke Movie Set and Frontier Movie Town. There are many hiking and ATV trails, even rock climbing. Unwind at our regulation 9 hole golf course or go for a dip in the Kanab City Pool. Once you've had your fill of activities, stop by one of our delicious restaurants and enjoy a great steak, old fashioned soda or even Vegan fare.
The Western Legends Roundup, Amazing Earthfest and Greyhound Gathering are only a few of the great events you'll find here in Kanab. If you're looking for fine arts and culture, you'll be pleased to visit the Juniper Art Gallery, catch a concert by the Symphony of the Canyons or the Canyon Singers or maybe even see a live stage show. During the summer months, you can watch a live performance of singing, poetry or instrumental music, by one of our local residents, every Wednesday night.
